Important information about Treesy

At Treesy, we want to make it easy, affordable and transparent to take personal climate action through tree planting.

Trees are living organisms. No tree planting project can therefore guarantee 100% survival forever.

Treesy does, however, commit to:

  • doing everything practically, contractually and locally possible
  • working long term and responsibly
  • replanting where necessary

We also want to be completely open about what our solution can do, what it cannot do, the assumptions we use and the natural risks in nature-based solutions.

Disclaimer

Tree planting is a supplement, not a replacement. Treesy does not encourage increased consumption. The most effective climate action is always to reduce emissions where possible.

Tree planting through Treesy should be seen as:

  • a supplement to reduction
  • a way to take responsibility for unavoidable emissions
  • a long-term investment in climate, nature and local communities

About the term "Carbon Neutral"

When we call our smallest package Carbon Neutral, it is based on conservative average assumptions:

  • The average Dane emits around 13 tons CO₂e per year
  • One tree is conservatively estimated to store at least 100 kg CO₂e over its lifetime
  • 130 trees × 100 kg CO₂e ≈ 13 tons CO₂e

This means 130 trees per year correspond to balancing the average Danish climate footprint. This is an estimate, not a guarantee.

Are you climate neutral from day one?

No. A tree does not absorb 100 kg CO₂ on the day it is planted.

  • In the first years, uptake is limited
  • It increases as the tree grows
  • The largest amounts of CO₂ are stored when the tree is mature

"The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.

The second-best time is today."

Conservative calculations

We have deliberately chosen a cautious approach. We would rather plant two trees too many than one too few.

CO₂, CO₂e and carbon, briefly explained

  • Carbon is an element and the building block of trees' biomass
  • CO₂ is the gas trees absorb through photosynthesis
  • CO₂e combines all greenhouse gases into one common unit

No formal CO₂ certification

Treesy does not use expensive third-party certifications such as VCS or Gold Standard. We have opted out because they would significantly increase the price per tree. Instead, we carry out strict internal control through physical visits several times per year and ongoing documentation via geotagging of each tree.

Force majeure

Treesy cannot be held responsible for events outside our reasonable control, including natural disasters, disease outbreaks, political unrest, illegal deforestation by third parties or extreme climate conditions.

In such cases, Treesy will work for replanting and restoration where possible, but cannot guarantee full replacement in every scenario.

FAQ – Frequently asked (and critical) questions

How do you ensure the trees remain standing long term?

We work with several layers of protection:

1. Contracts

Our local planting agreements state that the trees may not be cut down, are monitored at least 4 times per year for 3 years and must be replaced if they die.

2. Local incentives

  • 1/3 of the trees are fruit trees, providing food and income
  • local communities are educated in the benefits of trees
  • healthier soil and water retention benefit local agriculture

3. Forest Fund

Social and economic projects in the local community are released after 10, 20 and 30 years, only if the trees are still standing.

What if the trees die?

Not all trees survive, and that is accounted for.

  • The trees are monitored continuously
  • Weak or dead trees are replanted
  • Survival is part of the partner's responsibility

Why do you plant in Tanzania?

  • Trees grow faster in a tropical climate
  • CO₂ uptake per tree is high
  • Tree planting is more cost-effective

In addition, Treesy has a co-owner and team in Tanzania, and we are physically present during planting and monitoring.

Can I see my trees?

Yes.

All trees are individually geotagged, shown on a public map and traceable to planting area and planting period.

Can the same trees be sold to multiple customers?

No.

One tree. One donor. Full transparency.

We avoid double counting through individual geotagging and public information about planting areas and donors.

Is it greenwashing?

We counter greenwashing through conservative calculations, clear disclaimers, open access to data and physical presence.

Can I calculate my CO₂ footprint more precisely?

Yes. If you emit more than the average, you can use an external CO₂ calculator, choose a larger Treesy package or contact us for a custom solution.

Can companies use Treesy?

Yes. We offer solutions for companies, families and communities. Contact us for more information.

What if I am still skeptical?

We understand. That is why we promise less than many others, prefer showing over telling and answer critical questions openly.
